Gums De-pigmentation
This is a procedure of surgically correcting the colour of the gums. Some people have high melanin pigmentation in the outer layers of their gums, which makes the gums appear dark in certain areas. The outer layer of the melanin rich gums can be surgically removed to allow healing with lighter pink gums. The procedure at our clinics can be done electro-surgically or using the scalpel, by specialist periodontist. Electro-surgical correction is bloodless, heals quickly and with less medication. PLEASE NOTE THAT MELANIN PIGMENTATION OF GUMS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL. IT IS NOT AN INDICATION OF ANY DISEASE. DE-PIGMENTATION IS PURELY A COSMETIC TREATMENT.What to expect afterwards?
• Discomfort may vary from person to person and depending on the nature of procedure carried out • Over the counter pain-killers may be required. De-sensitizing toothpastes and mouthwashes may be used. • Brushing and Flossing are important. Follow the instructions as given • Dietary restrictions, if any given, are to be followed • Repeat procedure may be required in cases of relapse
